About Me

Hi, I’m Mark LaBarbara—a systems engineer, network administrator, and cybersecurity professional with a passion for problem-solving. I recently graduated Cum Laude from MSU Denver with a Bachelor's in Cybersecurity, where I focused on connecting theory with practical applications.

In my system administration role, I manage a diverse IT environment encompassing Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and virtualized infrastructures using Proxmox and Hyper-V. Whether it's implementing effective Group Policies, streamlining cloud integrations, or designing scalable systems, I enjoy finding solutions that enhance efficiency and reliability.

On the cybersecurity side, I’ve led efforts to align our organization with frameworks like NIST 800-53 and ISO 27001. From writing incident response plans to creating security awareness programs, I’ve worked to strengthen every layer of our infrastructure. Implementing a formal vulnerability management system is one of my proudest accomplishments so far.

I’ve also tackled unique development projects, such as writing a PowerShell application with a GUI to automate secure SharePoint portal creation for compliance with data transfer regulations. Additionally, I’ve modernized a legacy Access database CRM with VBA scripting and SQL reporting, including PDF automation for seamless sharing.

While I’m not actively contributing code to open-source projects yet, I use them extensively to optimize business processes securely. I’ve dabbled in writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and love exploring how open-source tools can simplify and enhance operations.
